Once upon a time in China 🇨🇳 •••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• This time three years ago, I took my first trip to China. My friend @tysontravel and I explored the Shaanxi region where we visited the Terracotta Army in Xian and hiked the ”world’s deadliest trail” at Mt Huashan. 🏮🏮🏮#latergram from my visit to Taiwan a month ago. Taro Rice Balls dessert at JiuFen Old Street (九份老街), aka the Spirited Away village in Taiwan! Although there has been no official confirmation that this place is the actual inspiration of the famous Japanese anime Spirited Away, I can definitely see the resemblance. There are tons of red lantern , tea houses and cute shops along the old street. Jiufen is only an hour ride away from Taipei by taxi. If you are traveling in a group of 3-4, I suggest just taking a cab - you'll save time and hassle compared to taking public transport and not very expensive. Jiufen has garnered a lot of interest in the recent year so there are tons of visitors during the day. It is not that big, you can definitely just do a day trip, but if you have time I would highly suggest staying the night so you can explore when there aren't many other tourists around. Taro rice ball is pretty much synonymous with Jiufen. It is a bunch of soft, chewy glutinous taro rice balls inside a slightly sweet soup. You can have it cold or hot - I chose cold since the weather was pretty steamy when I went. I got mine from Ah Gan at the top of the hill, where you can enjoy yours while overlooking the bay below Jiufen or you can walk down the step and explore the area while enjoying this snack! Huge pool with lots of water jets with a million dollar view, spa and sauna rooms, relaxation room, inside and outside obviously 😃 treatment rooms. Marrakech!! Gimme everything in your markets for the home that I don’t have 😂🤤 . Fun facts about this picture...I refused to leave the markets until I found this photo spot for my group. The owners of this shop also admitted they purposely set up the display “for the Chinese tourists” who take the most photos here. Oh and also, those mounds of spices are fake. Throwing it back to a moment in India for #traveltuesday - the state of Rajasthan, in particular. I probably have two dozen photos I could still share from what has undoubtedly become my favorite state in the country. This particular spot, The Patrika Gate, is an ornate decorative landmark on Jawahar Circle – the biggest circular park in Asia that’s on a traffic signal. It is the ninth gate of its type in the city, mostly pink on the outside with a series of nine repeating arches or pavilions inside that are each nine feet wide. Each is intricately carved and painted by hand, telling the stories and the history of Rajasthan in bright color with stunning detail. Though it is new, it has the look of something older and fits in well with the jewel box that is the city of Jaipur. I was bowled over by the designers, the artisans and the creative people who call the city home so seeing the gate on our way to the airport to leave the city was a perfect way to cap that part of our trip. There’s such a wealth of beauty there that’s nearly an embarrassment of riches and Patrika Gate represented a chance for one last moment of WOW 💥😍 ...Which is really saying something because the whole of India isn’t exactly a place that’s subtle or simple when it comes to design or art! I think that’s what I’ve come to love about it as a place to travel to.
